Don’t Do Anything (This is Happening): Sat, Sep. 9th at The Packard Long Beach
Multimedia Album Release for LN and the Allies of WWIII feat. Avi Buffalo + DJ Lili Bird
Long Beach, Calif. Saturday, September 9th at 8pm. An immersive happening celebrating the release of the new LN & The Allies of WWIII album. The night will include statues, secret rooms, auditory exorcism, and all 7 Deadly Sins.
LN & the Allies of WWIII is a project that has been incubating for a decade by local artist and theatrical composer, Ellen Warkentine. Warkentine has been a long-time collaborator with Four Larks, an award-winning surreal junkyard opera company recognized as “Best of LA” by KCRW and LA Weekly. She is co-creator and composer of LOLPERA, an absurd opera completely composed of internet LOLCAT memes. Her new album, Don’t Do Anything (This is Happening) is a personal work referencing avant-pop, early jazz, and vaudeville.
LN & the Allies of WWIII pulls members from an-all star line of of Long Beach bands, including Matthew Proffitt and Gino Martez of King Kang, Roland Cruces of Nothing But Flowers, Vanessa Acosta of The Vespertines & Bootleg Orchestra, and songwriter Alyssandra Nighswonger. The event will also feature interactive installations and performances by local artist Danielle Kaufman among other special guest performers.
The night will be inspired by the 1946 experimental film by Maya Deren, “Ritual in Transfigured Time”, and the “Come as your Madness” avante-garde masquerades of the 1950s that inspired Kenneth Anger’s “Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome.” Guests to Don’t Do Anything (This is Happening) are highly encouraged to get creative and come in costume as their own madness. Be as mad as you wish, or come with just a touch of absurdity… of course, costume is not required for admission but it will give you a discount off the door.
This night will also feature an intimate performance by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Avi Buffalo (Sub Pop). Avi Buffalo has extensively toured the US and Europe, opened for Modest Mouse, been featured at SXSW, produced several artists, and is currently working on his own third full length album.
DJ Lili Bird (of DJ duo, Fando y Lis), will be spinning all vinyl and specializes in 60s/70s international pop, psych, garage and soul for your listening pleasure.
